Horsey People ?

Quote:
I built the chicken coop onto the back of my horses stall. I have never had a problem with any of the larger prey animals getting our coop. We have all kinds of problems with bears, fox, coyote, and coons. They have never in 3.5 years been raided until a weasel worked its way in. The horses were so freaked out when it killed the chickens. They were the ones who alerted me something was going on.
I actually think its safer for the chickens being around the horses. I have never had a problem with them being together and I would actually recommend it.

YUP! I do!

"Carroll" a 17 year old Peruvian Paso mare I've owned since she was a yearling:

She just looks evil in that pic, but she was NOT happy with a passer-by looking at her filly, LOL

We Breed Shagyas, brought 4 mares and a stallion with us from Germany when we moved.

Right now we have 8 horses, the initial breeding herd(imported), 2 purebred fillies from 2006(currently for sale) and one 28 yr old Polish Arab mare we bought when we moved here.

Here are our Shagyas:
Murad, our Stud(more like a oversized baby if you ask me), he is 11 yrs old now and a total sweetheart. In this picture it was raining like there's no tomorrow and he had to take a roll in the mud, normally he is white with silver sheen but he doesn't look so bad as a paint either.

Dahri, she is now 8 yrs old and one of our broodmares(and riding horse for visitors). She and I don't get along to well, we got her as a spoiled rotten 2 yr old and I was the first "child' to ever put her in her place(previous homes children let her get away with anything cause she was their first filly), ever since we haven't quite seen eye to eye on things...... although as long as there is a food reward she will do what I want from her.
She is super nice and sweet with other people.

Philomena, now 12 yrs old, more Stallion then Murad ever was when it comes to attitude, but the most gentle soul I have ever seen.

Pasheera, Philomenas 7 yr old Daughter, very sweet mare, not as dominant as her mom. green broke at the moment, after she had her first foal in 2006 we kinda forgot about fully training her.....

Pasari, Philomenas 6 yr old Daughter, only daughter of a german Shagya stallion whos bloodline is rare all together. She is the only one in this country with this line and we hope to get a few foals from her in the future. Sadly her sire has died several years ago due to slipping on his pasture, the same year she slipped on ice and broke a piece off of her hip(according to the vet it shouldn't hinder foaling but you never know).

I don't have any good pics of the babies or my Old Girl at the moment. I will add them later,
Anna

Haha, wow! I hadn't noticed there were this many horsey people on a chicken site! lol.

I have been riding for 14-15 years, I ride mainly Show Jumping and Reined Cow horse stuff (but do my share of EVERYHTING else too).

I have trained and shown many, but so far I have officially owned[/kept] one:

Here is Bo, my rope horse, looking thrilled.

And again with "Petey", who is owned by a friend of mine. This pic is at least five years old. DH doesn't look too comfortable, does he?

Trying our hand at pole bending (roping saddle and all)... We won first place the first (and only) time we both tried it.

This is my five year old, Star.

This is what she looked like when I brought her home. She was pathetic. They were feeding her straw (yes, as in the bedding) and she was covered in barbed wire wounds.

She has thanked me by growing up to be a great little mare.

Ah ha! This is the picture I was looking for...

A picture of Handsome and I. He was a bay but turned out like that when body clipped!

He was from Idaho and didn't need that five inch coat here in California!

And here is Handsome and I when he was a long yearling and I was about five.

Again, far left, getting ready to ride in a parade. I (in the back)was probably 11 or 12. That's my friend, Kasi, in the front. We still cowgirl together.

I had two Icelandic Horses for 12 wonderful years, my 2nd one died at nearly 40 years old. They were Blakkur (black & #152 Canadian Icelandic Horse Federation) and unregistered in USA/Canada but Icelandic papers for my Shadow; Moalingur (mouse dun). I'll have to scan "old fashioned" pics at work to post:)

My curent "horse" is my largest Weimaraner (neutered) male who thinks he's a happy racing quarter horse;) (have four weims now, one is a long hair weim)
