I was wondering if you had any advice on how to put hot wire and how far apart each wire should be. This is mainly to deter bears. We’ve only ever had foxes and coyotes besides them but I know all kinds of other land predators are around.

I use two strands of wire. One at bear height as one is standing on all four feet, around 30 inches, and the other wire at around 18 inches from ground level.

This is very effective against bears, my most common predator. The key is baiting the hot wire to focus the bear's attention on it. I use peanut butter on the wire at intervals. I've watched with great satisfaction as a bear tastes the peanut butter, does a 180, and runs off, never to return.
