Yes, a hot wire can be VERY effective!

Hello! I was hoping to get more help from Mr. Egghead_Jr or someone who has experience with setting up hot wire fences....
We recently set up a hot wire fence and it won't work! I'm not even sure where to trouble shoot!
Help!!

I can see a number of areas for improvement, but what part, specifically, "did not work"?

Is the fence HOT and delivering a shock? Not?

Are animals able to avoid it? (yes, as you have it setup, they could.....easily).

i see your trouble!!!! red goes to the wire not ground, green is ground, connect your wire to the red post, switch them around, your will have your hot wire

Swamperkk is right and another important thing is the moisture in the ground in your location. If you are in an arid region there may not be enough moisture in the ground to establish an efficient complete electric circuit.

Also you will be unable to just switch poles on the charger because the wire or tape in the two top images on the left are touching a ground source. This will further ground the tape. Electricity is a lazy force and always takes the easiest and most direct path to ground. You want that path to be preferably in through your chickens enemies' cold wet noses and out through their little bitty tootsies.
