I have a question for everyone that has "house ducks"
I have a pit bull, and shes pretty animal aggressive.. I have kept her far far away from even seeing chickens for their safety, well trying to. The kids left the door open the other day and I didnt even notice she was gone for a few hours. I found her in the back yard just watching the chickens & ducks in the coop. Which isnt normal for her, usually she tries to bite other animals. In the past I have gotten her to get along with 5 of my grandparents dogs, and my micro pig. It takes alot of work though. My micro pig passed away earlier this month, and she is still depressed. They were best friends and would cuddle together every night. I dont really want to get another dog just yet, but I want her to have a "friend". I wasnt paying attention yesterday, and I left the door to my brooder room open. I have a pair of baby ducks in there, in a brooder on the floor, my dog followed me in, and was just watching them. I would have put money on her attacking them, but when I turned around her tail was wagging. We also recently had a full order of baby chicks die,(this is kinda gross) but she pulled one of the dead chicks out of the box when I sat it down (for 5 mins, while I put on shoes), and walked over to me, laid in front of me and laid the chick out like she was giving it to me. Its very odd behavior for her. Im wondering if she might form a friendship with a duck. I dont know if this is normal, but once she forms a "friendship" with something, I wouldnt have to worry about her ever turning on it, but I would never leave them unattended. Shes very loyal to her "friends" no matter what species it is. I have a super friendly khaki campbell, he is full grown, and I had been wanting to bring inside, has anyone else brought a duck in the house with a dog? Obviously I would take all the precautions for both of their safety until I feel its safe to let them see each other without something between them.
