Nice! glad to see you mosey on over here to us eccentric types

I think Jupiter is having growing pains. I noticed her quills are coming hard and fast. They are thicker than the needles used to give deep muscle injections. I gotta think if I had that coming out of my skin all at once, I might feel some discomfort. She's needing extra cuddles today.

How is Mr. Cas doing today? I had a worm toy that worked great for Jupiter to keep her off my hair. She got bored with it though and won't play with it anymore. On the upside, the toy is whole and intact. The light still works. It was great while her interest in it lasted.

Cas is doing great getting big and sassy every day! He loves playing and digging and pulling. We are just trying to get him to pull on things other than us! Lol

For some help with feather pain try giving Lucy warm soaks. That's what i always did with Biscuit as she had hard feather casings and the warm water helped soften them a bit so it didn't make her crazy. She would itch like a dog with fleas the poor dear. Cas is just begining his feather journey but this is what i plan to do with him as he grows.:D

thanks for the tip! how often do you do the soaks and how long do you let her sit in the water?

I'm glad to know it wasn't in my head that she's having growing pains.

pic of Jupiter and papa kicking back on the couch. Jupiter has graduated to the Open Tail Deluxe adult harness by PartyFowl. I LOVE this product. Review coming as soon as I can get some free time.

I just can't wait to get Cas in his diapers! He's growing so fast, we decided to skip the baby ones and just go for the open tail one soon. Lucy is so darn cute! She looks so perfectly content chillin on your couch!

For Biscuit's soaks (and no hun, feathering pain really isn't in your head!

) I let her tell me when she's had enough. Biscuit thinks she is part waterfowl, so sometimes she wants a 5 or 10 minute soak, sometimes she wants to play for a half hour or more. Cockatoos are a dusty parrot so the baths are good for her anyway. For her my general rule has been once the water gets chilly I take her out. I also play around with her feathers while she swims and can feel when the casings become softer. They feel kind of like a plastic coating over new feathers and will become soft and plyable with a warm soak. I will even help her with some of the tougher ones by taking my finger nails and gently "preening" the casings off for her. Just be careful with new feathers (also called pin feathers, or blood feathers) because they have blood flow in them until they are in fully. Never remove the casing below where you can see the "blood line" because they can bleed. (Think of new feathers like the quik on nails of critters.) New feathers coming in makes them feel itchy, and helping with the casings relieves some of the itch. When Biscuit has a bunch of new feathers coming in, or she's molting, I do the soaks daily. Sometimes even twice a day if it's really bothering her and she seems irritable. Not to mention it's a great bonding between you and a bird because all birds preen each other.

Almost forgot...you guys haven't seen Biscuit yet, but this is a goose page, so here they are together! And you can tell by Biscuit's face that she's still not sure about this new thing sharing Mama's lap with her! LOL

(Disclaimer...Yes, I use EXTREME caution allowing them near each other :) )

That last one could win the next cutest baby fowl contest. So adorable :)

The first thing I thought of as I read your instructions was the quik on dogs. I've never owned poultry before. I'm really nervous attempting to help might hurt her since I've never done it. Is it possible for you to post a video on how you do the hard casing removal? Visuals really help me. I give her a lukewarm bath every morning after breakfast. She seems more comfortable today.

Biscuit and Cas look like pals. Do they play with each other? Would love to see video of that!

I can take a video later and post it up sure thing! I'm a "learn by watching" person too!

I hope they will be pals as Cas grows. Right now, their time together is strictly monitored, because while I adore Biscuit and she's generally a sweety, she's got a bolt cutter on her face that could hurt Cas if I'm not diligent. Cas on the other hand, adores her and tries to snuggle her. Biscuit just looks at me with a look like "Really Mom? Reeeeally?" If she could roll her eyes, I'm pretty certain she would! LOL

She's a talker so she started calling him "The Baby" because that's how she'd hear me refer to him, and I've always taught her that things smaller than her are "babies" so she must be gentle. This is how she learned not to bite tiny fingers that always want to pat her. As long as I tell her they're "babies" she'll nod her head and will be nice. Even squirrels and birds outside her window are "babies". Well, now I call him by Cassy, and the new problem we're having is that it's really hard for parrots to make the hard C sound. So... imagine our surprise when she yells out the remaining portion of his name at the top of her lungs! Our neighbors must think someone here is a very vulgar person! LOL
