House Goose Thread

I use a whole size 6 baby diaper inside and double tape to stay in place.

I have not yet made a video using the new diapers because they are a bit trickier to put on him and doesn't make for a good video! LOL!
I use the type of diaper harness shown in the video. I like it, because it allows my goose to reach her tail gland when she preens herself.

I developed a little diaper hack: By stapling the half diaper I create a little pouch, and the flaps are used to hold the diaper pouch in place. Works like magic!

What a great idea.

So many comments....I cannot quote them all.
Staple the diaper, excellent idea!
Oliver is so tame, how did you do it?? I just got two Seb goslings, they are almost two weeks old. They wear baby diapers now, and they "struggle" to walk, and they pick at it. LOL. if they are following me, then all of a sudden they walk just fine. Tonight the boy went so far as to flip himself over on his back! Silly goose.

I had a house duck, she was very sweet but my dog was let out when she was in the yard and well, no more house duck. (he was in his crate and my moron friend let him out).

I absolutely love Oliver going to bed, and all his toys!! I have a few toys for them now, but they are uninterested right now. Tonight, they actually explored a colorful pencil, a paracord keychain I just made, and a ball of paper...I set them out on purpose.
I am currently keeping them in a clear storage container, and they like it much better than the solid color one. The sides are a bit shorter, but they can see me so they don't try to jump out.

I am so excited to have them, I wish I could have them with me all the time! I love their nighttime happy purring, and wee wee wee's when they see me.

Bumping this thread... My first gander, Pear, is now a house goose!

Sorry about the clothes in the background HEHE!!
Pear follows me all over the house, which is a good thing because we have two dogs and three cats!!! He showers with me every morning and dries off while I'm cleaning out his tub. His tub is the one in the picture above, he sleeps in it at night and that's where he eats his food.
He's becoming best friends with my boxer/pit mix and he has a feud with one of my 16 year-old cats. I just love him, so funny. His diapers were ordered from Avian Fashions and will be here any day now!

Here's one of him after a shower.

Hi guys! I have been researching having a house goose for a few years now and I only have 3 questions that have gone unanswered. Is your goose loud in the house? What about at night? I never see house geese being loud in their videos. And when I went to a fair and saw some regular ones they were pretty quiet. The second question is how did you get your imprinted housed goose? I am a little afraid to try to hatch them so what is the oldest I can get my baby at and still have him imprint?

My goose is NOT loud in the house unless I al being loud. She only ever whistles, almost like snoring, at night. I got my Pear at two days old in the mail, after her two sisters died from a blocked crop she became a house goose and I took her EVERYWHERE. Slept in a tub next to my bed, took a shower with me in the morning, if I was somewhere she was walking right behind me. Now five months old she still follows me all over the place, knows her name, and when I run she runs and flaps her wings beside me!
I think to have a bird truly imprint like Pear you MUST get YHEM young, three days at most, you can't let anyone take care of them and you have to spend ALL day with them. Literally. Pear loves when I pet her and hold her I think because I spent soooo much time with her!

I love that I see your name in every thread I find! =)

I have a special needs house goose and she can get loud but only when something is wrong. she will honk a few times in the mornings if she hears the door chime and the door to her room (my son's room ) is still open. the noise scars her. she will also honk if the roster is crowing, because it scares her. the other noses she makes are not loud. geese dont like change as a whole (at least mine dont) and are known for being the "watch dogs/alarms" or the barn yard. if you have consistent change that your goose will be subjected to then it might not be a good idea. when i have people come over the go in my son's room in their night time dog crate and the door stays shut.
my outside goose honks every time he hears a train, or anytime the dog barks but thats about it. my silkie rooster and female cayuga are much much louder than my geese.
I got my geese from a farm swap. my first was 3 wks old and she was already imprinted because of her disability she was held a lot by the farmer. my new gosie we got at 7 days. i bought a 4 mth old from the farmer and he is very much NOT trusting of us. I suggest not trying to hatch geese unless your experienced and prepared to lose some because I keep reading that it is hard to hatch them yourself. there are plenty of options from hatcheries to your local feed stores to networking on BYC to find someone local. i even see ads in craigslist.

I agree, geese live a long long time. if your not willing to have one for their entire life, DONT get one. it wont be fair to the goose. you cant just give away an imprinted goose. we also have devoted several hours of every single day to out birds. we dont go on vacation either.

These guys are so cute.
Its nice to see that some others have theirs in the house.
My Piper is only 6 months and Reebok is going on 21.
I've often wondered what I will do when something happens to Reebok and Oliver.
I did everything I could to avoid a baby when trying to find a companion for Reebok after Jordan died.
I did a rescue that never got to come home after her vet check so ended up with my Piper, who I wouldn't trade for anything.
She comes in the house at every opportunity. If I leave the door open just a crack while I'm going in and out she takes that as an invitation.
Not wanting to buy another youngster at my age after seeing these guys I may make her a house goose if I can get her to stop terrorizing the dogs and cats.
Linda,
Reebok, Oliver and Piper

I love your profile pic! I love my house geese! i also have a few outside in my backyard. i have several dogs so the birds have their own area so no one gets hurt. i have a 9 lb dog that follows me everywhere and she often tries to chase my gander which in turn pecks her and makes her yipe ! it is funny to see the dog run from the bird!
