House Goose Thread

Hi Miss Lydia!

I was looking at some old photos of me when I was about one years old. I was petting a duck in my backyard. I asked my mom about the duck and she said my older sister rescued it from kids that were trying to drown it as a duckling. My sister brought it home. It imprinted on my mom and used to follow her as she visited her neighbors.

I started researching imprinting and having ducks or geese as a pet. I read a lot and emailed people that had them as pets. The Sebastopol goose was recommended to me because of it's calm disposition. I called many breeders with no luck. They were sold out.

I contacted Barb at RuRu Ranch and she had Oliver. He was 4 weeks old and kept him indoors. She reassured me that he would imprint on me and he most certainly did!
Because of Barb, Oliver changed my life!

Hi again!
Here's a video of Oliver selling his books at a local town event.

at the same event trying to drum up business. He stood in front of anyone who had a camera and posed for pictures!

I am in love, he is just so adorable, and so laid back, love these videos. and you know what I have pics of me when I was small with my dad at a local park watching the ducks geese and swans swimming in the pond so maybe that started my love affair even though it took till I was in my 40's and in the country before I got my first duck. How old is Oliver?
Thank you so much for sharing your videos with us.

I'm trying to find a good source of diapers for both chickens and geese. I saw someone had posted once about a bumblebee diaper for her chicken, and I had the link... but I have no idea where the thread was, and apparently my favorites did NOT save when I moved everything to another computer to re-do my main one.

It needs to be an adjustable one, because I have all sorts of breeds, and all ages of birds. And I bring them in occasionally when they are sick or injured, and keep them right in my room. Normally I just have towels and sheets laying all over the place that get washed once per day. But having a diaper would make it MUCH easier! I could get several, and just do one load every few days, instead of an entire load of towels and sheets every single day.

And of course, I'm about to get several sebastopol goose eggs to hatch out. If they all hatch, I'll move them outdoors, but I'm seriously considering the idea of keeping one inside.

So where does everyone here buy their diapers from?

Yes! I have tried many different diaper harness designs! Oliver is an indoor pet Sebastopol goose and wears diapers all the time. A woman named Tess Callen, her business is called: Chicken saddles and diapers. Here is her email address ~~ [email protected]. She is very reasonable and makes diaper harnesses for chickens, ducks and geese. Her holders are cotton fabric with plastic liner...add a baby diaper inside and your house will be poop-free! Good Luck!

Diapers described above are not adjustable but have a sturdy pouch design and elastic for around wings. The are very reasonably priced, so you can get a few sizes. They wash and dry very easily. Check out her website. When emailing Tess-put "diaper holders" in heading.

Hi Miss Lydia!
Oliver is 3-1/2 years old. Just like you, when I was little, I fed the ducks at the park. I have a bunch of pics of me when I was very young with all the ducks gathered around us. It also took me many years later-living in the country to decide to raise an indoor goose! Thanks for looking at Oliver's videos!

Here a video of Oliver wearing his red diaper. It shows how the diaper fits his bottom and is very comfortable and LEAK-PROOF for the most part!
