House Goose Thread

geese are always happier in pairs from what i gather. you can have a single goose, but they are really prone to getting lonely and/or depressed if you can't spend pretty much all day with them. they want a constant companion. i've given miss nelson a stuffed cow and a few other toys to hopefully occupy her while im gone until i can get her a friend

This is my sweet baby Miss Nelson

Oooooh she's so cute!!!! Man they are adorable!

It will still be a week or so until the others hatch, hopefully someone hatches. Otherwise I will have to get her a duck friend.

HI Kuku!

Getting measurements for Simone the Brown Chinese goose right now. She lost alot of weight being broody, and she does best at eating and socializing with us in the house. She's a really sweet girl and I want her to have access to her own food and greens, so everybody else doesn't gobble them up. I'm glad yours are adjustable, that way, as she fattens up, I can adjust them. I am going to get two or three, that way, when I am laundering one I have back ups.

Kuku,

I just thought of something for Trina. You know how you can buy the sod squares? You can get her those to graze on without necessarily growing the grass itself. We also give our kids lettuce, chopped celery, spinach, kale, and the like. We give them chopped timothy, alfalfa and fescue also. It is the baled hay, but if you put some on the ground, they eat it. In the UK for donkeys, they use haylage. They moisten it. I will see what I can find out about doing it for waterfowl. You only want to moisten as much as she will eat because of molds, etc.

I will get back to you on the haylage.

Rugener -

Is Simone full grown? I don't remember all our previous conversations. I am seeing now that Trina is growing more, the baby diapers are not as great for her. I am working on a grown up one. The baby one still works! I just don't think it's all that comfortable over her tail.

That is a great idea!!! I will have to look in to that some more! Will just be using the fodder for now, busy busy week, but those are great ideas for in the weeks to come and possibly long term! I love having all you goose gurus' knowledge to absorb!

Kuku,

Simone is an adult, so tonight I will do the measurments for her. I think 3 is probably good, don't you? For switching out and laundering. I think she is going to end up being a house goose. She does alot better inside and eats much better. She gets doted on and tolld how beautiful she is. I have a red bowl that I put her salad in and when I pick it up, she gets so excited. It's hilarious. We can get the prices and shipping figured out when I give you the measurments. You pick the fabric. I will be happy with whatever you send. Then she can run around the house tormenting the cats.LOL!

Sounds good!
I may have some new babies hatching in a week or so, if neither of the eggs make it, I will gladly give you trina's old ones, I don't expect to have any other goslings anytime soon.

Just wanted to address to the spinach this is Not good for the geese....
I know spinach is SUPER high in some things but I can't think off the top of my head what they are. Do you know if it's one of those things that makes it not good for them? It might help me avoid other foods they can't have.
