House Sparrow in my chicken coop.

so you allowed a cat access to your chicken coop... why didn't you make a box into a hospital container for the bird instead of giving the injured thing freedom to a whole coop. I doctor injured, and even do minor surgery on birds... they need a small, dark, warm place to recover... not a chicken coop where cats can come and go. I live in so cal also... in the future contact me.

I find house sparrows fly in through the chicken coop door (the one that the chooks use to come and go), and when I enter the coop through the man door, they fly out the way they come in and disappear. They're usually after the feed in the feeders, particularly during the colder months of the year when food is sparse outside for them (I live in North Dakota, so snow on the ground as early as mid-October and as late as April, sometimes into May). As long as they exit, I don't do anything. I've found one or two that died, trapped inside, however. Never had any health problems with my flock, though, as a result of them being in there.

probably because he/she is a kid - give him/her a break!

Spray the wound. Is there are opening it can get out? They usually will find an opening eventually if there is one. When it's better you can encourage it toward the opening with a broom or feather duster or something you can hold away from your body. If you have a net for catching your chicks, you could capture it and treat it and put it someplace safe.

@DanielPlayz, your chicken is beautiful! What breed is she?

@KingB, you are welcome to take all my house sparrows! They are everywhere here, by far the most numerous bird in the cities and suburbs.
Haha I'm alright thanks!
I'm not a real fan of them either. When I was a little kid they used to be extremely numerous, now they're not. I guess its global warming causing it. (Not)
