So I’ve recently been interested in getting a few quail to breed from but I was wondering, as quail are monogamous, if I’d have to house pairs separately or if multiple pairs can live in one area. I own an excessive amount of chicken and used to keep 1 pair of bobwhite quail so I have plenty experience with them overall just need a bit of guidance ☺️✌️

If you are looking at corturnex about 1sq foot per bird. They are not flighty so you can use a shorter pen if need be. I keep 4 hens to one cock in a pen. Keeping in groups keeps extra cocks from fighting and I find it helps with egg production.

I've discussed this with @007Sean and in his experience with captive Bobwhites, you can keep one male with several females. In the wild they'll find another if their chosen mate dies.

Coturnix can be the same, one male to several females. I have 1 male with 6 females.

Bobwhites are more or less monogamous, buttons are very monogamous, coturnix are not at all. It depends on what species you want.
Bobwhites can live in groups most of the time, but have to be split during breeding season. Buttons will generally murder each other if kept in groups. Coturnix should always be in groups.
