Houston, we have a(n ordinance) problem!

Thank you for the links! I have some reading to do! From my research I think 4-6 would be about perfect. There is proposed legislation to supercede City ordinances and allow 6 chickens but that doesn't mean I shouldn't try to do something at the city level at the same time!
Aha! So something's already in the works! woohoo! :fl:fl:fl

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
I hope everything works out for you. It's smart that you didn't just go ahead and get chickens because it's all too often that someone joins this forum to tell their story about how the city or town they lived in forced them to get rid of their chickens and how heart broken they and their kids were. Chickens truly are very addicting and people tend to fall in love with having them. I wish you the best of luck with your plans and hope you soon post pictures of your new flock!

Thank you! I'm planning to get in touch with the owners of the flocks within a few blocks of us to get some insight from those doing it against the ordinance. I'm a rule follower by nature, so I really just want the legislation to pass!

Before we moved I was only allowed 3...no roosters and had to pay $50 a year. We moved in October and guess what...no zoning :)

You know, maybe I just need to suggest to the city that they create a reasonable ordinance and monetize it and issue permits! They are always looking for a money grab!

Be careful of volunteering to pay fees, they may get greedy. But I do respect you not going against the ordinances. I live in a small town and I seriously wouldn't want to piss off the locals. You never know when you might need them. And 30 chickens? That's just crazy in a more suburban neighborhood or did I get that wrong?

Reasonable is key...there was no way I was going to pay50 a year for 3 chickens lol other parts were fenced in and has to be 15 feet from neighbor properties.
