How about a new thread for those of us in wheelchairs?

Hi everyone
Diva sent me!!! This is a great idea! I am not in a wheelchair yet, but it probably is somewhere in my future and some things are already getting more difficult. There are some alterations I have already done to my gardens and coop design and am always looking for ideas for things I can do now to make my life with my girls easier down the road.

So tho I am not a wheelie I hope you don't mind if I join in?

My partner and his Dad did central vacs for decades, and my concern would be with that diameter of hose, you might need a seriously high powered suction source....but I love the idea of using cheaper automotive parts rather than an expensive and hard to empty central vac, and the moisture of the manure can be a problem too, please keep us updated on how this goes Rebel Cowboy?

Hi Chicksoup, you are more than welcome to join our "flock" here! My partner has learned from my declining health, better to plan ahead, and don't we get points somewhere for just making it easier?LOL

Good morning!
thank you for giving me a spot on your roost

I have done nothing revolutionary (yet

) . This is my third spring having chickens - again. Had them MANY years ago when my children were small and I was renting an old farm, along with goats, and other assorted farm type critters. My hubby, a poor city raised boy who didn't know what he was getting into, and I now live on acreage in the northwoods (his former hunting land). It's taken years, but I have made a reasonable country boy out of him.
OOPS hear something outside, be back and finish the story=====================

Mind if I follow this thread? My father is chair bound and we are always looking for ways to adapt the property to better suit him. Right now we are working on raised garden beds high enough to work from his chair.

Pull up a seat on our roost, and make yourself at home! Quality of life is a major issues for me and so many others, I already like you, that you care to make his quality of life better. Way to go!

Hi Chicksoup,
please do continue your story. As for me, being handicapped I get frustrated with some of my family saying we can't do it, we don't have the $$, and it is me, the one that can't make my body do what it should, who has to figure it out......
My partner has farming in his history, but more with horses than mixed farming, and I am lucky to have both in my past. It is a real challenge as our little farm has lain fallow and unworked for decades, and just getting in the infra-structure is a long hard haul.....didn't feel like a farm until we got the first coop up and running and the 20 Ladies settled in.....poor city folks don't get to enjoy the simple pleasures, like looking out a barn door on the coldest night of the year, 54 horse behind you, just finished night feeds, and the warmth of them, and the smell of a clean barn, the contented shuffling and munching hay, full moon on the snow and everything has a blue light to it.....heaven......
