I been feeding hay for along time this year.. the lack of rain caused feeding this summer not just the winter.... Reminds me I have to move a couple more bales to the feed shedAs you can see in the back ground - I have been giving the Geese and Muscovys hay along with their regular feed - They have been eating about a bale a week. Are others out there doing the same?
When you say a bale you mean the whole huge thing it comes in, not being a horse person I am not that up on the terms and this is my first year offering hay. If it is then I bought a bale about 3 weeks ago now and they nibble on it but are not eating it like they did in the beginning, I'm kinda disappointed because there is no green anything right now and I was hoping this would help with that.As you can see in the back ground - I have been giving the Geese and Muscovys hay along with their regular feed - They have been eating about a bale a week. Oh, very nice!
Really good looking birds!
Wow! Mine will nibble like Miss Lydia's but that's about it. They give me dirty looks as if to say "where's the green grass Mom?" I really do have to start some grass seed for them. I've got the pots already to go, it's just finding the time to do it.Bale = the whole retangle is comes in. Flake= the smaller peices it naturally divides into.
Some geese like the hay better then others. Fred and Halloween eat it as fast as I give it to them (about a flake a day) Squishy and Dora a flake last about 1.5 days and Josephine and Napoleon go through about a flake every 2 days. The temps and their moods effect how much hay vs. feed they eat. I always make sure they have plenty. If they were to run outta anything (never more then 12 hours) I make sure it's not the hay.
I'm with you Miss L. Maybe Wally actually had something good for a change though. Is it possible to mix one of the Wally world bales with the other? It might do the trick. I've got to see if mine has them. I hate to just give them feed and grain. It would make me feel a lot better if they would eat something green besides the plastic fencing on their resting pallets. Jeez! Silly geese.Maybe I need to cut back on something else or just leave things as they are If they don't finish the bale by spring I'll use it for bedding. then they can eat their bed.Actually the small bale i bought as a test, it was the small bale for rabbits at Walmart, very expensive, they really ate the dickens out of it.![]()
