How about a Thread for Embdens?

My brother has horses and buys over 400 bales a year for winter feed - he gives me the greenest 2nd cut bales for my geese and ducks. I have 6 Geese and 20 Muscovys eating the hay free choice and because we have snow covering all the winter rye I planted in the fall, they are going through the completed bale in a week. They get complete commercial feed , but seem to love the hay.

I would bet the hay I am getting at TS isn't really good feed quality. It is mostly timothy and green but....who knows. Like Miss l said, they nibble. Me thinks maybe I better find another source for hay.

Forgot! I'm from Rockland, Mass. originally.

I hate winter!!
ok...seems like we're doing ok then...they get lots of whole kernel corn and wheat and I'll add in some fresh greens and
crazy chicken for a treat...sounds good?

Wanted to add that what you're feeding them now is excellent for the winter but you should modify their diet in the spring/ summer, such as cutting back on the corn

a good grass hay would work... and some just take longer to take to it. Remember geese are like children and not all of the like their veggies if they're favorite is not available.

Lol!!! Oh this is so very true and on so many levels! I have always referred to mine as heathens and there are times when they more than live up to the title.

That is so true, my gander[Embden] would eat corn all day long I do believe, so I hand it out sparingly .

Got it!! Thank you...I've been learning that they can forage just fine as long as there's grass showing. Just add veggies in the summer, right?
