Hi, I would think that would be high too, but there is always food left in the dish. Also, any less and she really cannot walk. I started with one tab and just kept upping it till she felt OK. I do put it toward the side of the dish opposite of where I put Gabby's oyster shell, to hopefully keep them each on "their side" of the bowl. I've tried feeding in different spots, but you may know that Pekins do whatever they want, and Gabby's so nosey, she must get into Francie's food, no matter what. Do you think Gabby Duck will have a problem with overdose of niacin? So far her eggs are still tasty and shells are nice and hard. I will do some more research, and let you all know what I find, but do you have any idea how I would know if Gabby is getting too much niacin? Thank you, livininbrazil.Ask Ruru, she´s the whizz on Niacin (important vitamin B3 in Brewer´s Yeast)
Goosiemama, how many tablets are recommended for one person to take per day? That dosage seems quite high for a goose. Some vitamins we take get washed through if the body doesn´t need it, but others can cause a problem if we over-do it.
Just out of interest, do you think it´s the Brewer´s Yeast or the glucosamine that helps her the most? Is she an old goose? I can´t remember her story. She´ll show the usual symptoms if she is actually deficient in Niacin, but glucosamine will help her if she has joint lubrication problems.Hi, I would think that would be high too, but there is always food left in the dish. ps Do you really live in brazil? If so, where?
kalsti, frostbite is extremely painful, which is why it is important to have metacam for pain relief.
brandi, we scoop the hay out every couple of weeks.
Per my vet, for a 15-20lb goose the daily dose for brewer's yeast is 1/2 teaspoon, glucosamine is 1 tablet, and fish oil is 1/2 capful. Of these three supplements, fish oil is my vet's absolute favorite for geese.
Glucosamine comes from fish shells, and what the body doesn´t want it discharges. It´s safe to use, like fish oil, but niacin has its limits.Goosiemama, my vet says that too much niacin can cause problems, so yes.... you can give them too much of that supplement. Not sure on glucosamine. But have you tried fish oil? I am sure my vet would recommend tapering off the glucosamine and adding fish oil. He seriously swears that fish oil is the wonder supplement for geese with arthritis.
Brandi, you can get brewer's yeast, fish oil and glucosamine from a human nutrition store, but Metacam is prescription only.
