How about a Thread for Embdens?

Huh. I think I will give this a shot. At the very least it will be warm and give everybody something to scratch around in. We put pavers in the chicken run this year and I worry their little feet are cold. This morning some of the girls were dancing around (tucking one leg at a time) after I let them out of the coop). Seems worth spreading this for the winter...

Thanks!

I have been giving all the poultry some lovely second cutting grass hay. I smells like summer and they all snack on it. They spread it around when I throw them a flake and have something underfoot to keep their tootsies warmer with all the water they throw around. They even pick through the mulch hay I use for bedding. It all breaks down in a hurry in the spring and makes a nice addition to the mulch heap. Lucky I have a neighbor living close by who has good quality hay for a reasonable price.

In late fall I threw cornstalks down to help keep them out of the awful mud we had for a while and the geese dragged it into their water tub and munched on that, too.

LOL they will munch on anything, I have found stones and sticks in the bottom of their buckets.

Morris dancer? what is that eggactly?
Eggsactly!!! What is that? haha, it´s a very old traditional english country dance that a group of men actually take very seriously, but it makes me laugh. They dance about with bells on their long socks and wear shorts and have sticks that they hit together.

There are ribbons involved, too, but I can´t remember what they´re attached to.

This was supposed to be in reply to the first post by Miss Lydia. Wonder if she will see it?

What makes him an Embdens? Mine are a pair of Danish geese and they look a lot like Sammy. He is Hom and she is Elle. In the picture on the left, Hom is on the right keeping watch and making sure Elle is safe. They are really sweet. I have only had them for a little over 4 months and I just love them. They have started laying which is way too early for goslings so I have been picking up their eggs. Had my first goose egg for supper with home made sausage patties, home made green tomatoe jam on toast. Yum!
