How about keeping a live trap going 24/7 in season?

Any traps i have once in ,they don't get out........had coons so large they fill the trap, even rip off the trip plate, I feed them before taking them out of the trap..............................................LEAD THAT IS.

Just because you might not smell anything that doesn't mean your target animal can't.

Ha Ha, funny post Foxy. When I post about setting a trap with whole eggs, I always expect to have to explain that they are not cracked open. Just never thought somebody would decide to boil them. John, just like Foxy said, leave them raw. Home made eggs that aren`t washed are lots better than store bought washed eggs, and they do have a smell that predators like. I don`t have minks and such in my area, but I`ll betcha they will go for an easy meal first, just like any other predator. The only thing I know of that won`t be drawn to a whole egg is a bobcat. Well probably mountain lions too, but those are rare in chicken yards. Try the raw whole eggs, ya won`t be dissapointed........Pop

i'm new to this, i've only had chickens for just over 5 months now.
so far i haven't seen any predators other than a hawk that flew over the yard just above the tree tops, that was a month ago.
nor have i even seen signs of predators. but that doesn't mean that they are not there lurking....
should i put out live traps regardless of not having any attacks on my birds. the wife believes that the bait will attrack predators. is that true..?
i guess if there aren't any predators around(which i'm sure there is) i won't attract anything.
but if i wait for something to happen 1st to put out the traps then it's too late....right?

hey foghorn!! good point about the target being able to smell what may seem to be low on aroma to us featherless bi-peds. hadn't thought of that. i must switch to raw eggs--in the shell of course!

yeah, that is actually funny about cooking the eggs for the varmint first. i actually just swiped a couple hard cooked that were available. store bought brownies..............i guess i'll steal some REAL eggs right outta my ducks bodies. good little girls they are.

of course on a weekend morning someone could always prepare a nice omelet with bacon for the predator, too..............

But no one has addressed my qu. about PLACEMENT of the trap.

of course, if you have seen activity or signs of, then you put a trap there, obviously. but what about putting them at the 'wood's edge' where you have seen nothing, or along the perimeter fence in the open grass for the night, where you have also seen nothing..........?

c'mon you pros!!!
