How are you frugal?

I buy them, too! They are totally awesome in soup! My kids say it tastes better with the ends than if I had bought meat for the soup!

We have automatic light switches in the pantry and one bathroom. Light stays on as long as there is movement if you don't move then they stay on 1 minute. I have gotten so used to the one in the pantry that I except the lights to come on every time I walk into any room. Want to get one for the closet in our bedroom since husband sometimes leaves on all day.

A question for those of you who make your own laundry soap. Does it work in the front loader HE washer machine? Also, could someone post the recipe if it does.

Thanks = learning even more tips on how to be frugal.

New washer and $900 later...
I'm afraid to use any other kind of soap other than the HE soap..
Although i'd like to make my own...

When I worked as a yard duty and now as a substitute teacher I get hit up for money all the time. As if they would really pay me back. Why do children always think that adults have endless amounts of money to give them?

Hmmm... I've been using the homemade soap in my front loader. I've never bought that HE soap. My machine is about 10 years old.
I'm kind of curious now how much that soap suds up. I actually never looked! That is the thing - regular soap is too sudsy. These machines are supposed to push the water through the clothes. You can't push suds thru clothes I guess. I'm gonna go put in a load and look, you got me curious!!!

Be back later I hope!

Last night:

Free pizza/2 liter soft drink from Welcome Wagon coupon.

$1 movie rental from Red Box.

Today:

Gathered free landscaping rocks/gravel from Craig's List. Almost got the entire front of my house lined. Will probably need to buy 2 more bags but that is wayyy cheaper than buying 20!

I will be curious to see what you say. I feel that my front loader doesn't get my clothes as clean as on top loader. We use white cotton dinner napkins (yes I iron them) and the tomato type stains are not coming out well. In my top loader I would fill with HOT water and bleach them clean. Can't seem to accomplish that with front loader. May be home made soap would do better job.

One time I had a horrible stain - grape juice and ketchup - on a new white shirt. I got it damp and poured a big pile of salt on it. The next morning the salt had absorbed the stain. I have tried it since and it still work. Soaking in a castile soap and baking soda mixture has also worked miracles for me. Also, just soaking laundry for an hour or so before putting them in the wash get clothes cleaner.
