I have a bit of a staggered hatch going, which is ok because I have 2 incubators going. I had one lone silkie egg that was laid about 5 days later then the rest so she had a different lockdown start date, happens to be tomorrow am, BUT i had a break in pipping and zipping so I decided to take advantage and just pop her over tonight....open the LG, grab the egg, and she cheeped at me......I was like Oh awesome, wait a minute, is that a pip....oh not so awesome. So there is my little silkie love bug pipped, exposed to dry air! How bad is this? Can she potentially still zip and hatch now that she is in lockdown? I run a dry hatch in my LG, and my hovabator is where they hatch, and its currently at 70% humidity. Im crossing my fingers she will make it! Any thoughts/advice or past stories are more then welcome and appreciated! Thank you

I think that she may still hatch normally but more likely she will need some help. If it was me and If she hasn't hatched in 48 hours or at anytime looks to be weakening I would assist her. Of course be careful if you do help, only a little at a time make sure veins are dried out so no bleeding. I've also remoistened the membrane that surrounds them before with warm water it seems to help the shrink wrapped ones. Good luck.

it sounds like she wasn't exposed long, if you are concerned you could mist the egg with warm water. you should be fine, I have had to open the bater when there were pips before and things turned out fine

Well.......She was out before I went to bed!!!! Fastest pip, zip and hatch Ive had, and she was only day 18! Cute little partridge silkie!
