How big are fox

I know for sure that it wasn't a dog. I have seen a fox here, but it was a lighter red with whit on the tip of the tail. This was the size of my dog kona which he is a medium sized dog, and it had no white on it. It was dark auburn with black legs and black tail. It doesn't look like the wolverine at all. I know that we have coyotes in the field at night across the street because I can here them at night. I thought that the fox was smaller than this thing that I saw. I don't know what it was, I just know that it wasn't normal, and I will be hunting it down. It took my favorite rooster, I found his feathers when I went out to scout out the woods for it. I locked up tight last night, and am keeping on eye out today. Thing is it just walked past my horse yesterday. Shejust kept eating. It won't kell a horse will it?

I talked to DNR today and described what I saw, and they told me that it sounded like a coyote. That scares me even worse than a fox. I know these animals can show up in packs. I know there are a lot of them in the pasture across the street at night.

Our town is in the middle of the desert and we have coyotes that come into town. You can hear them everywhere yapping at each other. They come into the middle of town where there is a large field and eat the field rats that are in it. They might take a random cat every now and then but not enough for anyone in town to talk about. Coyotes are more scared of you then you are of them most of the time. They are scavengers and opportunist meaning they will eat anything that is already dead or deing and will try to take down a small easy animal. They probably won't bother your horses, they don't like going after really big game for food.

Okay, on top of the coyote problem, I have a fox problem too. I caught him sneaking throught the woods towards my coop today as I was feeding my horse. I ran and grabbed my pitch fork (Not that, that will help). Then coming home from a friends house I was driving by our pasture, and right in the middle (just before dusk) I saw a chicken, and thought it was an odd time for him to be out. Well, it turned out to be a huge bald eagle sitting there. I knew for sure it had gotten something. So, my son went out there, and two flew off trying to carry the hen that they had snatched. Granted I hated losing my hen to a eagle, but boy they were beautiful and majestic. I love bald eagles. I suppose that it is getting cold and everyone is trying to stock up for winter. Well, nothing I can do about the eagles, and wouldn't even if I could. The coyote and fox however are toast.
