I don't have room for roosters (plus I am too close to neighbor's), so only hens for me. Which are the least broody Marans or Welsummers?

And if anyone has any suggestions for not-so-broody breeds, I am open to suggestions.

Maybe someone else can answer this for you as far as breed specific. I have both and I dont really have any problem with either of them. Why these 2 breeds, are you trying to stay with the dark chocolate eggs?

None of my Wellies been broody, yet! My oldest hen has not been broody nor have any incline to do so.

I wanted to add some darker eggs to the mix that I have now (Sussex & Americauna). But I am not limiting myself to chocolate eggers...I am well on my way to a full chicken addiction, so I will probably end up with a mixed flock

None of my welsummers ever went broody, but I've got a couple of my cuckoo Marans that would rather be broody than lay, but they're older hens too which might contribute to it. None of my Wheaten Marans have went broody on me yet.

I have both & my young Welsummer went broody for a couple of weeks & then forgot all about it, but both Marans are like Katy's - they 'd rather be broody than lay! One is 1 year old & the other younger-in fact from same hatch as the Wellie hen.

I like the Welsummers better overall, will keep my 2 Marans but just hatched out some more Welsummers.

We love the mixture of colors---have EEs, Ameracaunas, Blue Rocks, Blue Andalusians in addition to the Wellies & the 2 Marans girls.

I've only had one broody Welsummer in all my hens. Sorry, but I can't speak to Marans.

You can't go wrong with Welsummers though!

God Bless,
