I think the point is the OP does not want the chicken to die in the nest from refusing to eat.So I can go dunk my broody hen in some cold water, stick her in a cage, swing it, withhold food AND water, and it's not abusive?
would you do this to a puppy....No you would go to jail. Why is it not the same???So I can go dunk my broody hen in some cold water, stick her in a cage, swing it, withhold food AND water, and it's not abusive?

I believe it was stated they were dipped in COOL water,, not cold,,, again,, cooling off a miserable bird is abusive? Swinging? they manufacture chicken swings,, chickens are naturally inquisitive and playful animals. Cages? isolating birds when they are sick is done all the time to keep other birds form picking on them and to help get them well,, difference?
And if you want to equate puppies with chickens,,, people crate their puppies all the time when they leave home for the day to keep them from pooping on the floor and that is considered humane,, difference?
The only thing I see the OP did wrong was in not feeding and watering,, but we all make mistakes and I'm sure they took away a valuable lesson from it. That's all I'm saying on this matter.
