Punchline: I have one 2 or 3 year old hen in the process of growing her feathers back after molting that now needs to integrate with my 11 hen mixed age/breed flock.
Back story: I took in 2 hens yesterday from a friend who needed to rehome her hens. They arrived yesterday and went into the south wing of the run - a separate look no touch zone that has its own little roosting/nesting area. I have done this many times before and usually after 4 weeks everyone is allowed to run together in the yard. This time, one of the girls that came to me was already in distress...and she died over night. Now I have one hen in the south wing.... and my 11 in the regular run/coop area. The new one is white with a bit of black....she looks like one of my others.
Do I leave her in the south wing as I normally would and continue as usual? What would you do? Thanks,
