I marked all the eggs different, so I know what eggs are what, but I want to know what comes out of what egg. Does this make sense?? I just have an LG, so space is limited. What can I use as dividers??

My husband had suggested getting 2 different incubators so we can move the hatched chicks over after they hatch. We haven't started yet, but that's an idea. He wanted to put eggs in at different times, but read that the egg turner has to be removed before the chicks hatch. I don't know how well this would work because we haven't actually even bought our incubator yet.

I just want to keep my RIR eggs seperate from the RIR eggs I have from a BYCer. Thats my main thing, I wanna know which ones are "mine"

What incubator do you have ? I was thinking maybe you could get a sheet of plastic canvas( the craft kind that has holes like graph paper) and cut it to size and maybe tape it in place.

Hey there,

I have seen people use little plastic baskets and set the eggs in them to hatch. That way the chick hatches in the basket and can't get mixed in with the others. You can then put them is seperate brooders our place leg bands or tie wraps on the chicks to identify them if they are going in the same brooder.

I've heard of "toe punching" for ID purposes. A tool punches a chunk of skin out the webbing in the chic's foot. You set up a code whereby the position of each hole means something to you. I am wondering if a sharpie dot could do the same thing. Then the chicks can mingle and still be identified. Anyone tried this?

Toe punching is good to mark chicks, but you still need to keep them separated untill you ..Years ago when I did use the styrofoam incubators I would use the small mesh bags, sorta like what onions come in to keep the eggs and chicks separated, I't worked really well.....
