How can I tell if a chicken egg has stopped developing?

Anything with a shodow moving is sure sign of LIFE!!!! Loved watching your videos, the camera picked up on the movement pretty good. Impressed! I'd be proud if I were you. Don't worry about the dud. That happens. So these eggs were all ducks? So does that mean the shells are all white?? I could see a few pores, but again, the movement was great.

And where you using a proper candling light, or ordinary LED flashlight? Just wondering, because I'm having such a hard time decifering some of mine on day 11 now, some are 'brown' chicken eggs, and I oh so wish I could see movement.

One egg today I could finally see it dancing around. LOVE. But one out of 24. Not so good.
Thanks! I am pretty excited as this is shaping up to be my first successful hatch. These are chicken eggs and they are a light brown color. They were donated to my classroom, so I have no idea as of now what breed they will be. I used a skinny LED flashlight that I bought from Walmart that gives off 200 lumens and made sure the room was as dark as possible. I have never before been able to see inside the egg which is why I was asking so many questions because I didn't know what to look for/expect. I found that with some eggs I could see better if I shown the light at the larger end and some it was easier to see at the small end. Try moving the light across the egg from one end to the other to find what is the best angle for the egg. As for the camera, it was just my cell phone so I was surprised it worked that well too! You should be able so see the developing chick at day 11. I had to turn some of the eggs in my hand to get to the side that the chick was on. Good luck! Let me know how it goes!

Well last night was day 13 (I think) and husband was intent on candling. So we found now 7 for sure!!! And we still had a big pile of maybe's because those brown eggs will get ya eveyr time! lol

We didn't take any more out, besides for the four we took out a couple of nights ago. 2 of which were the only two duck eggs, so I guess it will be all chickies for us!!

Husband has just recently put a lot of work into transforming our bigger barn into a full blown chicken house. And we have an incubator ordered and on the way. Hoping to sell baby chicks in the future.

Hatch day should be sround May 31st. Good luck Teacherchick18. BTW, I'm a teacher too! :)

I am worried though that I just killed them all....I took them out of the turner yesterday, filled up the resevoirs with water, removed a vent plug and then went home from school. When I got here this morning the temp was around 90 degrees. I have no idea if it never got warm (maybe because I took out the plug) or for some reason the temp dropped. If it never warmed up it may have been up to 12 hours that it was a low temp. I candled the eggs yesterday and they all had movement. I really want to candle them this afternoon to see if I can get any movement now that this has happened. I am hoping that would be ok since they would be left on the nest when the momma gets off. It is day 19 for me. I could really use anyones suggestions or thoughts at this point just to give me a piece of mind! Thanks!

Today is the end of day 20 and this morning I saw several shake. I wouldn't call it rocking, it was more like a real slight vibration. I had to watch really closely to see even that. Does that indicate anything? I have read on here that when they rock that they have pipped internally, but do they make slight shakes prior to pipping. I haven't seen any that have pipped at all and no sounds coming from the bator, so I am just waiting for something to happen. I know that there is no exact date that the eggs will hatch but I was hoping that there would be something by now. I would hate to have them not make when they have come this far. They have all been pretty still since this morning.

I had one hatch this morning at around 6:25 am. It has been about 3 hours. How long will it take for the chick to dry? He is still very wet and he's moving just a little. If I talk to him then he perks up and talks back. Just wondering what is normal drying time for newly hatched babies. Thanks!

I am a little concerned now for the baby because it has been 5 hours and he still isn't walking around. He is as wet as before and I noticed some red around where he is mostly staying. Should I take him out and look at him? I can't tell when he stands if his navel has healed yet and he will only stand for a short period of time before he collapses back down. I feel like this is not normal. When he hatched there was no blood and all the vessels were dried (I assume since I can't see any in the shell). The only thing was that there was some greenish goop that was stuck to him but once he moved away from the egg it came off. I am not sure what to do. Thanks!

My I wish I knew what to tell you. Hope the little chick gets his or her strength. This week will be our first successful hatch (the Lord willing) and I can't wait till Wednesday or Thursday!! Today is our last day of turning. :)
