how can I tell if it's a male or female

Hi,

Im new to this forum and as you can see by my question new to guinea fowls. we have a lone fowl in our neighborhood, it comes in the yard and eats the corn and seeds we put out for the birds and squirrels. it use to be a part of a flock that are all dead but this last one. I hear it at night around dusk just screeching like rusty metal. I want to get it a friend but dont know what sex to get. every time a tell my husband it is lonely, he just rolls his eyes. I've seen it walking around the yards with a stray kitten (cant catch him either) but the kitty is gone now too. Ive looked at photos, but cant be sure. Ive played the sounds out the window and I think I get more reaction when I play the female, but that could be wishful thinking.

Can you get a picture from outside? The screen makes it hard to see.

Most people will tell you to listen to it’s calls to determine gender. I for whatever reason can’t tell the difference in calls for mine. Since you only have one it might be easier for you. Just look up their sounds on YouTube.

As for visual, here are some of mine.
male on the left, female in the middle.

His head is bigger, wattles are bigger, and he is always giving me the side eye.
And these are some of my females.

Though I wouldn’t worry about getting a certain gender. Just get a group and maybe it will join your flock

I might be able to go outside and get a clear photo, it comes by almost every other day
