How can I tell if they have started laying yet?

I posted yesterday about my concerns with my chickens and their lack of laying.....I'm happy to report that we got our first egg this afternoon!! It's such a beautiful day here that I have my windows open, and my husband and I both noticed a lot of talking going on in the coop, and about 30 minutes later we had an egg

I never thought I would be this excited over one egg, but I have texted all my friends that think I'm crazy and just had to share the good news. Hoping that we can get a few more this week and it's not just a fluke!

My new girls from this spring started laying about a week ago, about the same time my Roo learned to crow!
They were about 19 weeks.
My 3 wyandottes are all plumped out and squat if i walk by lol, its adorable.
I just introduced my 2 new girls after quarantine, its went well. both were march hatches, an Easter Egger and a Barred Rock.
EE lays little green eggs! The BR is very tiny, probably less than 3 pounds but she gives me HUGE tan eggs!
I am having some issues with the new girls laying where the rest do, am working on that now..
Cant wait till spring!! I am adding BO's, more BR's and Lavender Orp's, hubby and i are hooked!
We have a feeder pig now, and will also be adding turkeys and Milk goats this coming spring.
Feels good to provide my family with clean healthy food.

Isn't it the BEST??

OH MY YES!
We have had this acreage a good while but i have always worked full time, 60 hours a week or more usually.
We have a full house, and care for both my elderly parents (late 70s)
When the economy crashed 3 years ago, the company i worked for closed their doors.
WOW... Faced with being home full time and not working I was sick over it.
In reality it was a saving event for us all, mom got cancer.
Since I was able to help her and Dad through that ( she is in full remission! ) I realized they needed a full time caregiver.
Now my focus is heathy safe food in our lifestyles, and providing for them as the did for me as a child.
my Mom and Dad love chicken TV in the evenings!!!!
It gets them outdoors and gives them great laughter, the best medicine in the world!
I think the hens give my Mom the greatest joy. she loves to hold them and they are all perfect little ladies.
Every day she wants the egg count, and has a "Discussion" if her ladies are failing to keep up (she allows once a week!)
Dad just holds his geese LOL, he so loves the african Greys but the Embder gander has his heart too.

HA HA HA don't forget to mention don't re-use the lipstick, or my grandpa said when we were little, use chicken poo for chapstick it works!(cause ya won't lick your lips ha!)

Oh and my husband and two teenage boys already think i'm chicken crazy, if I started putting mylipstick on their butts hmmmm they might lock me up ahhhhhahahahahhaaha!!!!
I laughed so hard about lip stick on their butts... gives a whole new meaning to pucker up.....

It's official, I have a new girl who started laying. Two days in a row I have had an extra (different color than my usual) egg in the boxes. Time to start my csi detective work all over again ;)

My girls (all 8) finally reached POL. Season premier was 8/4/12 @ 17 weeks 6 days of age
and ended 9/19/12 @ 24 weeks 4 days old.
CSI season finale was yesterday, when I officially witnessed the evidence of the last pullet laying an egg.
Oh no worries there is always reruns

I have spent so much time sitting outside the coop watching the nest box. it has paid off. I have seen all my egg layers lay an egg. Kinda fun to see them lay an egg. I know exactly who lays what now.

Me too, glad to know someone else is chicken obsessed too hee hee, my husband thinks I'm certifiable, but it is sooo cool to look at the eggs and know which chicken lays them by shape and color....I put the date on each egg when i bring them in the house, I could add the name too if I wanted to hee hee
