how can u tell what sex the turkey is?

he/she is 5-6 weeks old how can u tell @this age what it is? ty

You can tell some that young, but not all, and you will sometimes be wrong, even with the ones you think you are sure of. If you have more than one you can compare certain traits. Males tend to have larger snoods (bump on nose), may lose their head down a little quicker, develop more and larger bumps at the base of the neck, have thicker legs, and look meaner (sort of. you will hear people describe differences in general head shape..like hens have softer eyes, etc.). To me toms look more aggressive, although they are not necessarily. Hens will usually keep a strip of small feathers up the back of their neck when they go bald.

Depending on the breeding, some birds change colors. For example, in a bronze X narragansett, toms will be bronze, but hens will be narragansett. They look the same at birth, but narragansetts start to lighten up at about 3 weeks.
