how can you tell the gender of a chicken?

I think that was for the one who put up four pics...and it looks like there's only the one rooster in that lot.

I could certainly be wrong about your lavender Araucana, but I'm thinking rooster on it...looks like there's the start of a big comb, and more so, it appears to have tail feathers like a rooster. Then again...I'm still not sure about my white Americana/EE!

My guess on yours was a Roo (before I got down to where you said what it is!). What is your thought on this White Americana/EE? I purchased four "day old" pullets from Murray McMurray Hatchery and they gave me an extra one for free. We've assumed it was a male...it's a freebie and we've thought it acted more like a Roo, but we're now questioning that since it doesn't have any comb yet at six weeks old. Perhaps it's still too early with these...???!!!

I'll guess it's a pullet...

His baby pic

can u guys go to my profile by clicking on my pic and look under my recent activities and click on "Old English Bantams. Are they broody?"? maybe someone could help me out.

FYI, my bird is in fact a pullet, almost ready to lay, and a mixed breed -- bantam buff brahma and serama, supposedly. I managed to find her owner and returned her to him. We are sorry to see her go, but plan to get more chickens in the near future. Thanks for all of your comments.
