How close can I put my coop to my back deck?

I am new to this. I have helped my son with his coop and chickens. but now I have six of my own. I have build a coop (4 x 8) and want to put in next to my shed to block the afternoon sun. This would put my coop about 8 feet from my deck and about 25 feet from my back door is that too close?

You might check building regulations in your area - some have limits on how close a structure can be to the house. Otherwise, I'm not sure what your concerns would be?

My concern can be summed up in two words (smell and flys)

Smell and flies will depend on your husbandry practices. If you use a poop tray under the roost and clean it out daily, keep your run dry and tidy it up regularly, you should no problem with either.

Keep your coop clean and you won't have any smell. I sprinkle with DE and don't have any flies either. I wish my coop was CLOSER to my house. Especially when I have to trek out through the deep snow. Like I don't already have enough to shovel....
