How close is too close to house?

I have some coops with poop boards, some without. My FAVORITE is the coop where I hung a small tarp, like a poop hammock from the back of the coop and under the two roosts. Because it doesn't have a solid, flat surface, no one walks into the fresh poop like they sometimes do with solid poop boards. When it's time to clean, I unhook the hammock, take it to the compost pile and dump it.

Even when the poop freezes, it's easy to "pop" it out of the hammock. I also have vinyl in some of the coops that have poop boards. Although most of the poop collects under the roosts, not everyone makes her "deposits" directly underneath.

Best wishes for your coop project in its entirety!

Also, I was going to put some vinyl flooring in there for easy cleaning. Are boards better in that sense?
Poop boards are better because they keep the coop bedding clean longer. I only clean my coop bedding out once a year. And that's mostly because it's broken down and it's ridiculously dusty.
