In the Brooder
I have 5-6 week old chicks that are outgrowing their indoor brooder. They are no longer under a heat lamp indoors. They are fully feathered, but it is still chilly out here. I'm in upstate NY, and its been consistently inconsistent in terms of temperature. Some days up to mid 60s, others blowing wind and sometimes rain/snow mix. We are still in the high 30s low 40s at night. I put a heat source in the coop, but it's still only about 45 degrees in there. Is this too cold for them overnight? They do have a space under their nesting boxes to huddle up, but I don't want to shock them. Any thoughts or suggestions?
