I have 7 chicks that are just over 6 weeks old, fully feathered except for some fuzz still on their heads. This week our temperature will drop significantly within 24 hours, from lows in the 50s (highs in 60s) to lows in the 20s (highs in 30s and 40s). Those cold temps are forecasted to continue for at least a week after. The chicks have been outside full-time for 2 weeks now, but haven't been exposed to temperatures below 45 or so. They've done full nights as low as 49.

They are cold hardy breeds, buff orpingtons and australorps. Will they be ok in their coop with this big sudden temp drop? I was thinking of maybe giving them an insulated huddle box to sleep in if they need it, since the coop is still quite big compared to their size and it is not insulated. Not willing to put an electric heater in there.
