How cool is it to have a good Roo!

We always hear horror stories about evil Roos on here so i thought i would post a story about a good roo! I'm so glad I have my rooster Harry! I just have to share this! I always knew he was a good Roo ( very sweet, not aggressive, gentle with the hens) but the last 2 days he has shown me how good he really is. I recently acquired a mixed adult bantam from someone, I'm not sure the breed but she is very small. So I did the usual pen inside a pen for 4 days so they could all get used to the new one, then the first day I let her in the pen she had a little bit of a rough day with the rest of the girls

but Harry would always step in after she got pecked to separate. Then that night I went to check and make sure they were all on the roost and there is my little bantam looking at the roost, I think wondering if she was going to get pecked if she jumped up, and Harry hops down off his favorite spot, waits for her to jump up and then sandwiched her between himself and my BO who is very sweet

The next night, I let them out to free range for the last hour of the day and the bantam was having trouble finding the door to the pen to go back in the coop. Well Harry was already in the coop and heard her squawking and came back out to lead her in! Now today was the best! I let them out to free range again and I heard Harry going nuts! So I run out there and there is Harry chasing A cat away that I caught once last summer stalking my chickens!

So after that Harry has proven to me that he is an awesome Roo! And, it earned him some extra grapes tonight! I hope everyone else will put stories and pics of their favorite Roos on here!

I think he's handsome too, he was actually quite dorky looking when he was younger, he's a polish/Cochin mix so he had a little poof on his head.

But he finally grew up!

Thats GREAT! I could use some good stories. Mine are all youngsters and Im freaked out Im gonna get attacked. I only ordered one. I got 4. I really can only have one with 12 girls. Im trying to decide who to give away and Im pretty sure Im keeping the one I got on purpose. The one boss man is SO bossy. Thanks for your story about your pretty fellow.

I do love my roos too. Ruby roo likes to check on his hens when they are free ranging and loves to share his treats with them.

It is so nice to hear stories about sweet roosters. Too often you hear only about the problematic ones.

How great to hear this story. I REALLY did not want a roo but end up with one cockerel so Harry has inspired a bit of optimism. Just maybe, it will be not only OK but good or better. Yay, Harry!
