how could this day possibly get any worse

First a coyote killed 2 of my birds, one of which was my favorite and only Buff Laced Polish Rooster. We went up to salem feed and grain to buy more sheep food and come back and our sheep is dieing. Chester(the sheep) mysterously died about 20 minutes ago, and we have no idea why. He was perfectly fine last night, and we never noticed anything supicious about him. Now we don't know what to do with his body, do you know how hard it is to dig a hole in CT? Plus we have coyotes and it would have to be a really deep hole. The vets can have him cremated for $250 and we have to bring him to them. I just don't know what to do anymore.

RIP chester, I'll miss ya buddy

Do you have a "dead truck" in your area? We have by-product companies that for a fee ($50 per cow) will come pick up a dead animal.

I am so sorry -you are really having a stinking day.

I've heard (I have no experience) that sheep can literally be scared to death. Is it possible that the attack on your chickens by the coyote scared him that badly?

We also have people that will come and pick up dead animals here. You could look in the yellow pages under rendering or call your local vet or feedstore and ask them for referrals of people who do that.

It does cost, it cost us $150 for them to get my horse when we put her down. Hopefully it will be much cheaper than having your vet cremate him.

I will pray that your week gets better and you can solve this issue quickly.

Boy do I know how you feel. Last year we had Coyotes and Raccoons killing our whole flock. My husbands favorite rooster was the first to go, then 7 of my hens. They came back later for two half grown baby ducks that were my little babies. I finally had to get a coop built that was basically like fort knox to keep them out.
About your sheep, that is horrible. I agree with one of the other posters, sheep can be "scared to death". I'll bet he just couldnt' handle all the chaos when the birds got killed. I am so sorry.

I'm not sure if the coyote scared him or not, he was in an enclosed area, and the coyote deffiently couldn't get in there and he was inside the barn when we found him, I guess it is possible but it's just so strange.
