How did I get these curly lacey feathers (Cochin)? NEW picts post # 1.

What a gorgeous bird!

The coloring and type of feathering is just beautiful. I could sit and watch that bird all day.

The question I would ask hte breeder is whether this is a feather issue that has existed from hatching or whether it is something newly developed. There are a number of genetic mutations relating to feathering, not just silkie & frizzled. I don't have any idea whether it is any of these or not. The one that seems closest is fray (fr):

you know kathy, it's funny that you got this bird when you did and posted this....

my little paige, that was hatched on christmas, some of her wing feathers are coming in like that now.... i first noticed maybe sun that some wing feathers towrds the center of her back were not laying smooth.. not as curled as my frazzles, but not smooth like they should lay... then i noticed last night that some of them are getting this separation you have going on on your bird...
very wierd...

both of paiges parents are smooth feathered... i have no clue why it's hapening.. and i'll watch it close as she grows out... and does her first molt...

WOW, isn't this weird? I do think it is cool ... of course, not for anyone wanting a SOP bird!

It reminds me of that thread with the silkied Ameracunas that were a surprise to the hatcher.

Carrie,
If you come and get her, you can have her. I have to downsize my flock. I have one more just like her, too. I have no Cochin rooster, so I can not breed them. I have talked to the breeder, and he does believe he has found the mama to these now.
