How did this happen!

We started 4 years ago with just 6 from a local farm store.
4 years and 4 more coops later: 17 hens, 3 roos. 15 3 week olds, 14 1 week olds, and 30 more a week away from hatching.
And hubby just came home with 7 1 week olds from an embryology project.
sigh.
Just dropped off a dozen hatching eggs with a coworker who has 2 broodies ( sure we'll take the chicks back) ( No, his wife will want them, I hope.)
Another coworker wants a half dozen to hatch for his son ( sure we'll take the chicks back- those we MAY get back!)

At least it's keeping DH busy in his retirement and that is a good thing!

I know exactly how you feel. Two days ago that silly McMurray just had to post they had some extra hatchlings available for the April 18th shipment. Yup. Just had to add...

On Friday the feed store got in their shipment of Penedesenca (very dark egg layers) peeps.. I have been waiting for these. They were straight run only so I said 9

When I got home my set eggs of Blue Laced Red Wyandottes were done hatching... 16

Stopped in at a different feed store looking for sheep stuff.. I needed ear tags. Came home with 3 mottled Javas and no sheep stuff.

What can I say? It just happens.....

So far I've been pretty good about not overdoing it. Some of the chicks I have are sexed but some are not so I'm sure I'll have some roos to get rid of. Every time I've ever had chickens for sale there have been no problems getting rid of them. Last fall when I sold some of my meat project birds I had people fighting over them. If I was selling chocolate orps I could understand maybe, but meat birds?

I always sell a bunch in the fall so I end up with 15-20 in one coop and 8-10 in the other. The meat birds stay in the barn over winter. If all else fails I'll be eating a lot of soup.

I wanted to do that yesterday!

Our store had black astrolorps (pullets), EE's (pullets) SLW (I only have one one don't I need 2?! and pullets), polish crested things (straight run), hampshire reds (pullets), rir (SR), I somehow got out of there with NO chicks. We can only have 2 in town and we have 3.

I wanted to cry leaving with no babies.

figured I keep my favorites of the new mix and the rest I just sell. I have never had a problem selling mature birds of either sex.

My brother and sister in law WARNED me about the effects of "chicken math" We just got our first chicks 2 1/2 weeks ago and it has started already!!!! I am in trouble!!!!!!!

I started with a roo then added 3 chicken well at this point I told DH that we are not going to get enough eggs for the two of us so we need more so bought 3 more. well I did an antibiotic treatment after getting the second three as precaution so saved the eggs for our home made incubator 17 in, 14 good so at end of month will be adding 10 more I hope(4 are a friends) I can not go to Tractor Supply with out looking at the chicks but I can never buy any. I will just have to hatch all that I would like to have.
