How did you all introduce your chicks to your dogs?

I placed mine in the dog taxi and allowed the dogs to sniff them standing very close to the dog's if one tried to do more then sniff I would smack it's nose You have to allow it slowly they need to learn the chicks are a part of the pack and if they hurt the chicks they will be punished for it after awhile mine don't even care anymore I bring them out in the taxi and they just lay there I even had the door open the other day and they both were like "yeah seen them before, so?"

Now would I trust them alone with ummmmmmm NO! dogs can revert to huntinmg their prey at anytime it is their basic nature, I do however trust them to protect them from other prey seeking animals
Just be on your guard but just allow them time to learn about the chicks you must do the intro often so they will get used to them. Never trust them alone with them it may never happen and I hope it doesn't, yet why ever take the chance to find out if your dogs will attack them or not?

i understand what your saying. its like what my mom was telling me. if something happens you cant really blame them because its their instinct. their ok with the chicks untill their not.

How old are you dogs? The way I did it was my chickens were grown and my dog was just 6 weeks old. The chickens put her in her place QUICK. Sometimes I felt bad for her, but now I am grateful because she guards them and is great with them. They can fly and flap and Willow won't chase. With our older dogs introducing when we first got them, we had them on a leash so if things did go bad, we could grab them. Keep a positive energy, don't be worried. We had the dogs by the coop and just made them sit. Once they got used to the noises and occasional flaps and flutters we let the chickens free range while the dog was on the leash. BABY STEPS. And I would never trust a dog besides Willow around them. Unless they've been around them their whole life I can't trust em (even though all our others are terriers)
