How Did You Discover BYC?

My husband googled it and since he isn't big on message boards he sent me. I bought the 4 pk bumper stickers and plan to put them on everybody's vehicle. LOL. I just bought the chickens on whim and now love it.

I'm a retired kindergarten teacher and, back when our school was becoming technologically equipped, I had to take a computer course to learn how to use the computer as a teaching tool in the classroom. One thing we had to do was create a powerpoint tool the kids could use. I always hatched chicks each spring so I chose a chick theme. Googled chickens and found BYC. Didn't frequent it, though, until 2003 when I was approaching retirement and decided to keep 3 of the chicks we hatched. I only wanted a couple. HA!!!! The rest is history and I have been hooked on this site since then. Been to Chickenstock and have made lots of friends. I love this site and have to have my "fix" daily!!!!

GOOGLE!... and I think mypetchicken.com, but I am not sure!

It seemed that everything I typed in (Coop plans, bantams, chick feed) came up with a few BYC sites. After stumbling around here for a bit I was hooked!

It also seems like there was a link or something about you on mypetchicken.com, but now I can't find it!

I bought four chickens from the feed store and was looking online for a coop design. I grew up with chickens but DH never had a farm animal in his life (until he married me!!

) and needed a visual in his head to build a coop.
I found the EZ board site and lurked for almost a year. I never really posted over there because I didn't like the format.
Now that this forum is up, I'm addicted!!! And of course, the 4 chickens have grown to 18!

Edited to add: I typed "chicken coop" in the MSN search engine and that's how I found the site.

I've had chickens for about three years, two had passed and I was down to one. I figured she was lonely, knew of MM hatchery and ordered a variety of pullets. In preparing to take care of them, I did a search on Yahoo! and up came BYC, the new forum.
I signed in, and BYC has become my go-to place every morning and afternoon.
Each and every day I learn at least one new thing here, and the camraderie is heartwarming.
In less than four months, I now am up to 16 chickens, all girls, all different breeds, except for two buff orpingtons.
I'll be attending my first Chickenstock in a month.
I've quadrupled the chicken run and taken over the garden shed, converting it into a second bigger coop.
I am inspired and amazed by how many folks out there share this interest!

I found it through google about 2 years ago. Thank goodness! Don't know what I would have done without it.

DH has wanted and argued with me for 20 + years because he always wanted the little feathered wonders, but we didn't have room.

Once we moved to the "country" (3/4 acre) we got them and they are all now mine! I love them and couldn't live without having some. Found out just about everything I know from BYC and met the most understanding, knowledgeable people anywhere.

I did a search on google for chicken information (breeds, care, etc.) and every different search came up with Backyardchickens.com somewhere in there. I finally started looking around the site and I really liked the forum. I've been addicted eversince.

MyPetChicken.com is my next favorite chicken site (I'm very visual and it has a lot of appeal). I don't go on that site anymore much unless i want to look at the breeds and see what kind of day old chickens they have.

I found myself here after purchasing feed store chicks this spring and googling for care and coop info. I've checked in everyday since- asking questions and hopefully helping others out with my still limited chicken experience. I love this site!

I found it in June 2003. I would have been 11 at the time. At the time I was sort of having a look to see if it was possible to keep chickens in the city. I probably googled it.

BYC has led to 6 chickens over the past three years, a website (www.allaboutchickens.tk) and a job at the city farm (and working at the city farm has made me want goats lol), keeping chickens has turned me vegetarian, building the coop means that I now have some carpentry skills to speak of, not to mention the fact that my typing has got scarily fast since I started here. Keeping chickens has got me into growing my own veg too.

Just shows that from a little message board (well, it was when I joined), big things can come. I can honestly say (and this makes me seem sort of sad) that BYC has changed my life.
