How did your chicken obsession start?

1970 - my family moved to my Pappaw's farm when I was the age of 5 - my first pet ever was a lone chick hatched and given to me for a pet. I named her Miss Queen. I guess she was a White Leghorn. I had a few after her, until we moved in the late 1970's.

I grew up on a farm. I didnt like chickens at first cause all my dad had was "fighting" cocks. They were pretty mean and you had to be careful around them or get attacked. Then when I was old enough he let me attend the fights and the hurt birds stole my heart. I doctored them back to health instead of allowing them to be culled due to lost fights or whatever reason the person had that they didn't want them for any more. And from there came to realize it wasn't really the bird that had an attitude. So that's what started it.
