How did your flock annoy you today?

Pics
Picture this, the whole group running after me to the run for bedtime. At the open door, that they exit every. single. morning. half of them split and act like they have no idea on how the doorway works. :he
Why is this? 😂 Mine do this. I know they haven't been in their coop and run but 2 weeks and they're still young, but guys, the door doesn't move around.

Well, to make a short story long - a couple of nights ago, I went to lock up. Cochin bantams Pippin and Helena sleep in the "little coop" (one of those tiny Chinese things,) inside the run as the "big coop" is not big enough for 4 fully grown Legbars, a couple of half-grown Cinnamon Queens, and one bantam cochin cockerel.

I was sliding the door closed on the little coop when I thought, "That's odd, it's awful quiet in there." Normally I'd hear sleepy chicken noises. I open the side door and there's no one there. So, I start a panic search of the run in the dark with only my red headlamp for illumination, expecting to find dead or injured chickens from some chicken battle despite the fact they all get along tolerably well as long as everyone's personal space is respected.

I feel something, glance up, and there's Helena looking at me from her perch on the peak of the big coop. Logically, she's only there because she couldn't get to Pip. On a hunch I lift the lid to the nest boxes on the big coop and there's the little stinker fluffball cuddled up in one. Scooped them both up and stuck them back where they belonged. Helena, who is bottom of the pecking order, would've had to go past several of the others to get in with Pip but wisely chose the less confrontational option.

They've only done this the once. I have no idea what happened, best guess was a sunset chicken altercation that disrupted the order of things. Hopefully within a couple of weeks the New Coop™ (someday it'll have a name,) will be finished enough that this won't be an issue.

Why do I always have 2-3 stragglers when I’m trying to put them up? I move to the side so they can enter the run door. I twitch they run away. I push the door to so I can keep everyone else in. Then I go to get the stragglers who then run towards the closed door. Then they panic when I move to open the door. Sigh. Finally I crack the door and end up herding/chasing them with an extendable kitty litter scoop. Every f***n time. Every single time. Without fail. Come on Fanny Lou and Simone or sometimes Buffy. I haven’t eaten you yet and I will not be doing so today. Besides Simone, Salmon Faverolles are all feathers. We both know that. 🤣 IMG_1972.jpeg

Today, my flock got fermented feed for the first time. Based on their reactions, you'd have thought they were eating for the first time. Hashbrown managed to get over excited and ran right past the tray of feed and into the run/pen I've had inside the main run to integrate. She perched on top of the brooder plate and screamed because she could see the feed but "she couldn't get to it." Heaven forbid she run out the open door right NEXT TO HER (the same one she just ran in) and join the flock. I had to climb over the frenzy, careful not to step on anyone, to retrieve Hashbrown and set her with the others. All while she was screaming like a mad woman. Who knew bantam buff brahmas could be so loud?
