How did your flock annoy you today?

We had this happen once, and we found 10 eggs from 9 hens in one day. I always take a picture of the eggs and log them, so that definitely wasn't a misscount.
I believe I've read somewhere that very occasionally an egg may take slightly longer to go through the hen which results in 2 eggs within 24 hours. The hen in question probably didn't lay an egg the day before.

She didn’t! Here are the eggs in question. With a second look I can see a difference. IMG_2675.jpeg

Ok. So somebody laid an egg on the sh*t shelf again. Sigh. I think it’s a new layer. This egg is an anomaly. It’s powdery. It almost looks white. We have all brown egg layers or EE. The tip of the shell is cracked but the sack is intact. It’s kind of huge when all others have been medium to small. I put 2 grocery store eggs next to it for reference. The other egg is from one of our hens.

I missed this thread for a few days and you went from no layers to 1 layer to who the heck knows who all might be laying. 🤣

At this point it’s trying to match eggs to breed. I know the eggs of 2 layers for sure. But the rest?
View attachment 4240479I am hoping none of these are EE eggs.
I hope not. I know EEs can lay eggs that aren't colorful. But that definitely isn't why people typically have EEs. I bet they aren't though. I think that's uncommon for them to lay white or brown eggs. But I'm frequently wrong, lol.

It has the shape of a Marans egg. Their eggs are often large, as well. Is one of your girls a Marans?

Egg shape is due to individual birds, not to specific breeds

Though I'm sure selecting certain shapes (for hatching) will help pass on that ideal egg shape

For example, 2 if my layers (marans, and wyandotte) lay a somewhat oblong egg shape. I don't want that shape, so I shouldn't hatch those eggs.
Most of my birds produce more of that regular egg shape, so their eggs are fine to hatch. (Different Marans, ancona, austra white, etc I have a mixed flock)

It's possible it's a young layer who accidentally made too large of an egg, even if they usually make regular/small ones. Their systems take a while to work out how much shell to make, how much pigment to apply, and other things (such as double yolkers)
