In Scotland you aren't asked to register individual birds and I'd be surprised if it was different in England and Wales, though I haven't actually checked. (No idea about NI)
You need to update your registration within a month if you stop keeping poultry altogether, the species you keep changes from what you registered, or the contact information you provided changes. If you have 50 or more birds on the same premises, which was the old cut-off point for needing to register, you also need to update your registration within a month if the size of your flock increases or decreases by 20% or more. Other than that, you just get a yearly reminder to check and update your registration if necessary. They ask for an approximate number when you first register and there's no need to update every time that number changes slightly.
