How do chickens have dust baths in the winter?

I mix DE in the sand, so they "self-medicate". They love it, any time of the year, though.

Yes, but you have winter for 9 months out of the year, so that's all they know most of the time. lol

I plan to put out sand for mine to dust bathe in this winter too.​

I live in the desert, they have dirt baths anytime of the year. You could also use playground sand, they love that!

That's what I use, I store them for summer use in a metal garbage can.​

My girls dust bathe in their coop in the litter. Silly things. I love my chickens

Mine go dust in the foundation sand of an old house on the property... they've been doing it so long for so many years that there are some foot deep holes under there. They have probably relocated a good half truckload of dirt from under there to the front porch or car port where you find piles of dirt when they shake off.
