How do I dispose of raccoon if i trap one?

please kill it immediately, coons are getting so thick nowadays there are just way to many of them, also they will eat every chicken you have if you dont start gettin rid of them things.foxes also.KILL IT AND DONT THINK ANYTHING ABOUT IT.JUST SHOOT IT AND PUT IT IN A BAG AND THROW IT OUT THE CAR WINDOW OUT OF TOWN.

I'm with you Pop...

I LOVE .22 shorts and my Ruger single six. When I REALLY need to be quiet it's the 10/22 with shorts, but like you said will not cycle action, so it becomes a single shot.....but only ever needed one. LOL...

PLEASE DON'T RELOCATE!!!!!!!!!!! at least not while it is still kickin'.....

SSS. shoot, shovel, shut up.......very effective.

I normally dispose of several groups in a 1-3 week period after this has occurred I do not see ANY for 4-8 months plenty of time to re enforce coops runs etc and my neighbors do not have a pred problem I pushed off onto them

It does not hurt to double bag and goose neck the top of the bag to give the sanitation guys a little help if there are crabbers around you I know a couple who never want for bait

x2. I give them to a teenager down the street. He offered to buy them, but I'm just happy to be rid of the mangey things. When they leave they are alive. What him and his dogs do to them after they've left my property, I haven't a clue. Before I found this kid, I would fill a 50 gallon barrel with water, drop the cage in it and walk away. I'm not great with a gun, and have never felt comfortable shooting into the cage. Good luck!

Didn't know it was illegal to relocate, can you tell I'm new to this?

I guess I better get my .22 and some bullets out, and wait. Seems like the pests are pretty bad for some of my fellow byc'ers. I'm a recent city girl turned country girl transplant so I'm learning something new all the time....especially from this site, thanks!

I'm with Pop(both my sons and I have all kinds of guns, but we typically use a high powered air rifle (the $300 versions, not the wally world cheapies) its quick, quiet and quite effective....but if guns are a thing you dont want to mess with, use an OLD 48qt cooler and some engine/carb starter (not cleaner). It must contain ETHER....I buy it at the local auto parts store.

Spray on a rag, drop coon and rag in cooler and close the lid (I would put cinder blocks or a full 5 gallon bucket on the top of it). Coon "goes to sleep" never to wake again

Thanks! Sounds like what I'll do.
When you successfully dispose of this particular group of raccoons, another one will move in and present you with the same problem. A smarter approach is the completely protect your chickens by using hardware cloth, securing every corner and possible chew spot. Find where the raccoon are getting in, and fix THAT problem before you do anything else

My coop is completely secure. The chickens I have lost have been rogue hens who decided to hide in the trees at night and sleep there. I still want the raccoons gone though. They eat my chicken's feed, cause damage trying to get in the coop and garden. Every week I have to run the trash to the curb at the last minute or they'll be in it. They carry disease, and around here they aren't scared of people one bit. Last fall I was standing outside on my front steps smoking, and saw what I thought was a cat out the corner of my eye. Didn;t think anything of it until I heard trilling a few minutes later. Looked down and less than 10 feet away from me was a big fat coon eating some crackers my daughter dropped earlier that day. Yelled at it, it just looked at me. I went inside, it stayed there. Called fiance who stuck a bb gun out the window and shot it in the but with the point of the gun about 6 inches away. Racoon didn't even move. He went outside with a baseball bat and the thing finally had the sense to run away. I know if I catch and kill some, more will take the place, but hopefully with time they'll actually learn to at least be scared of people and not so freaking bold. I am looking for a dog, which I'm hoping will help deter them, but until I find the one I want this is the only option I have.
