How do I get a chickens to stop pecking??

I am also going to make a saddle that covers more of the back: back, wings, and tail. I found that the plain saddle just makes them peck elsewhere on the hen. I wonder what a hen would look like with a hood....

Thats good. I'm try to find a good place to get somes sunflowers seeds because appartently its help chickens grow back healthy feathers. I still don't know whether they need to be unshelled or not. Oh well, I'm going to look it up.

Don't know if you discovered whether you had to shell the seeds but you don't. Besides the layer feed we give our girls I mix up a bucket of scratch for them from the grains we grow on the farm here. It is wheat, cracked corn, oats adn black oil sunflowers. They like the wheat and sunflowers the best.

I had pecking issues horribly even though my coop was more then enough room. I was blue kote(ing) them and myself for weeks and weeks.

What finally stopped the pecking was adding more roosts to the coop and the run. It literally solved our problem. My roosts are very sturdy, but very easily removable since they are set in brackets.

By adding the roosts actually freed up a ton of ground space too.

These are the brackets we used to hold the roosts in place. I love being able to lift them out to clean the coop.
