How do I get a sucessful hatch with a Little Giant Still Air?

I never thought the cheap little thermometor that came with it was any good, but I am not sure what kind to use. I have a hard time reading regular ones, can I use a digital? Does it have to be an expensive one or can it be a 5 dollar one for the drugstore?

The Accurite digitals from Walmart do a pretty decent job. But, for me, unless I had total trust in my thermometer, I'd use two so I could double-check the readings.

Personally, I use a liquid-in-glass thermometer from Brinsea ($9.99+shipping). It is absolutely accurate.

I forgot to say in my last post that I have had better hatches with my LG sitting on the floor. Don't know why, but since I put it on the dresser I have had terrible hatches.

Okay, so I read the threads about the Egg Carton Method. Let me see if I understand it correctly:

You incubate normally until day 18. Then you put the eggs in the cartons which have the bottom cut out for breathe-ability. Then you just wait for them to hatch?

I have had very good luck with my little gaint ,I first hatched gennia eggs and I had 33 egg in it and all hatched but 6 . This is what I do.I put my eggs in after temp. reaches 100 or 99.5 , The first time I used the thermomter that came with the little gaint ,I like it at 99.5 better than 100 .put eggs in and then wet a washcloth and roll it long ways and lay it in there ,donot let it hit any of your elements, when it drys out wet it again and , do this for 21 days, I have a turner so I do not have to turn my eggs , Good luck

Yeah, they're in the houseware department.

I'm using a LG still air aswell. 7 eggs in the bator candling is tomarrow.

Oh, and can you get hydrogometers at Walmart? I live in a very small town and have like 3 stores.​

Everyone says to leave the chicks in the bator until they are completly dry, but with the few I hatched they were moving around and kept burning their head on the heating element. Did this happen to anyone else?
