My husband just completed construction on a beautiful little chicken cabin for which he cut all the wood from the trees himself( I will try to attach pics). I am wondering how I go about getting my 17 hens and 2 roosters to move in. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Are you asking how to get them to go in at night? If you are you should just put them in there every night in til they start to do it themselves. Some people recommend that you lock them in their coop for a few days but if its on the small side for the chickens its probably not the best idea

Put them all in there, might have to move them for the other coop(s) after dark, and lock them in 24/7 for a few days to a week. Block off the other coop(s).

I hope you have some ventilation, the one window doesn't look like it opens?
Opening the soffits would be good.

Close off the upper row of nests, so they don't sleep(and poop) in them.
5 nests is plenty for 17 birds.

We put a light inside ours- when it started to get dark they went inside where the light was. We only had 1-2 a night the first couple nights we had to go get and put inside. Once they were inside we turned off the light. They were “home” in less than a week.

They actually go in at night on their own. It’s just that they are used to going in to their old hen house and we are trying to get them to go in to their newly constructed one. Thank you for your suggestions.

Thank you for your reply. Yes, the soffits are open and you’re right the window doesn’t open. We will do as you suggested and close off the top nests. I think that tonight we will move the birds over too because there are a few that are coming over to nest but they are mostly all still roosting in the old house. Thank you again for your suggestions.
