how do i get my months olds to love me again?

Chicks go through an independent stage where they don't want to have a thing to do with you. I was crushed when my own babies turned on me. However, they did get over the stage (maybe 8-10 weeks for mine) and now that they are older (18 weeks) they follow me around like lost puppies hoping that I am going to accidentally drop treats. Don't worry about your chicks not loving you. They'll get over it. Just remember that food is the way to a chickens heart.....PERIOD!

QFT. I couldn't agree more. Our girls go *nuts!* over meal worms. I'm seriously considering farming them so I don't blow my whole chicken budget on dried worms.

Mealworms!!!! My girls are four to six weeks old, and have turned up their beaks at all sorts of fruit and greens. Mealworms were the ticket! They'll snap up dozens of mealworms in half a minute and run in circles with the worms in their beaks. Very cute and funny!

Watermelon and Strawberries are favorites of mine! Once they realize they can actually eat the watermelon they will tear your arm off to get to it.

I was having a similar problem with my four-week olds (that was over a month ago), I couldn't find a treat they went wild enough over where they wanted to bond with me.

I tried yogurt, earth worms (they were afraid of them), fruit, etc. I posted my dilemma and someone replied "Psst - shredded mozzarella cheese!" I tried it and WOW! They immediately bonded to me!

There isn't a chicken alive who won't go absolutely bonkers for mozzarella cheese!

Mine went through a similar phase no matter what types of great treats I gave them. They wanted nothing to do with momma. Now, at 5 months old, they are back to jumping up on my lap and falling asleep.

My 4 'teens' are the same way. They were so cuddly as one day old chicks. Now we call them the 'Wild Ones.' Eventually they will calm down again. They are the first chicks who I really thought were related to velociraptors. I give them treats in hopes they will return to their old ways...
