So many people just shoot them or worse, try to keep them as "pets".
My first Hawk, "Chance", was in a very similar situation when he came to me for rehab. He was poorly and on the ground, sick and weak. We had a string of really nasty weather, and he ended up sick and wormy, and I am pretty sure his mother had died before he was ready to be without her. I ended up keeping him for two years, training him to hunt properly and building him up from his illness.
I've had other birds, Coopers, Harris Hawks, and an African Pied Crow, but rehabbing Redtails....they are a class of their own.
